Default Coupla' steaks on the egg...

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of meeting one of our local Brethren: Ryan aka ---k--- and he was nice enough
to give me a few VERY nice filets for the grill. Couldn't pass up that kind of deal!

I set the BGE up for a two-zone fire using a charcoal basket from a Weber grill. This was the first time I tried setting the egg up this way and it worked pretty well- after seeing Midnight Smoke's
method of blocking off one side with firebricks, I figured I'd give it a try. Surprisingly, the charcoal basket fit perfectly!

BGE coming up to temp.

Here are the steaks Ryan gave me- they were beauties- 8 oz each. Once the egg hit about 600* I seared them on both sides and then took them to medium rare on the cool side of the grill. I seasoned the filets with salt, pepper and a little garlic powder. Real basic.

Here they are plated with the grilled asparagus (EVOO, salt and pepper) and some giant croutons on the side (those were
just dinner rolls which were cut into pieces, brushed with olive oil and grilled).
This dinner was AWESOME, unfortunately my photos just don't do it justice. I need to get more practice with the camera....

Thanks for looking!

Tom,

That looks out of this world, are you getting asparagus now or in the store? I really like the giant croutons, so easy, will be using that idea soon!

Hi Rubmybutt-

Got the asparagus at the store.

Definitely do the giant croutons- they're great for mopping up any juices on the plate, too!

I wouldn't think you should need a dual zone set-up for steaks, a few minutes each side over direct heat, flip a third time, shut your vents and you are done.

Yeah, you're probably right- hadn't thought of it.

At least I got to try something new on the egg!
