Default Electric Knife, BBQ Pitmasters

After watching the first three episodes of this show, I am left surprised that all of the big cooks use electric knives for carving. Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but I am intrigued!

Do any of you know which knives they are using, and what are the advantages of using an electric knife in competition?

Not sure what the top teams are using but I use a normal electric filet knife for ribs & brisket. It allows me to cut tender meat fast and without tearing up the meat. It can also be done with a very sharp knife but I went the easy route.

Two are using Cuisinart knives. Mike Davis uses an Anglers best brand.

Electric knives should be banned from BBQ competitions.

Noah - I have one in my comp equipment box but have yet to use it. It used to be the one I used once a year to carve the Thanksgiving turkey, but I got a new one as a gift...so old one went into the box...sits there right next to the "muffin pan".

I agree! It takes a higher skill set and you have to be smarter to use a regular knife.

That's for wimps!

Two pieces of wood and a piece of twine. Start your fire with that!

We've used a Black and Decker electric knife, the kind with two blades locked together and then they insert into the handle. Never liked the performance of it but I highly doubt that is the kind of knife Tuffy, Trigg and Mixon are using.

All things considered, we're pretty happy with our Forschner knives. We keep 'em razor sharp and they do a great job for us.

I was pretty surprised at the fact that they were all using electric knives too. They are all very high level cooks and I was sure looking forward to watching them masterfully carve their meat like fine artists with a brush.

Same here... The wife got a cheapo "Sunbeam" as a wedding shower gift 17 years ago. It works great on briskies.

No problem slicing brisket for me but I think it might work good for slicing ribs. As the knife vibrates it will "find" the bone and keep the cut straight,
