I read about all the awards, etc. this guy got and how fan-damn-tastic
his BBQ was. Only went to the place twice, in Alpharetta GA, but both
times it absolutely sucked. Not kinda, I mean was just damn bad. Much
like my experience with our Eatonton GA Shane's Rib Shack; aweful.

Perhaps (maybe in both cases) if you get away from the primary/regular
store (establishment) you get caca...

I dont know...

I know I go against the concensus on this board.. But I think Famous Dave's is pretty decent. I mean, it is a chain that actually smokes all of it's que. For me the flavor of their smoke has always been right on, and I've never had a rib there that's been overdone, dry or tough. The ribs have always been cooked right on the money. Granted it's not the best in the world, but for me it's perfectly acceptable to satisfy a barbeque craving. Besides that, everything that I've heard about Dave Anderson is that he's a pretty good guy.

I saw that yesterday and thought the same thing! Pretty darn cool, especially taking him out to dinner. Would have loved a pic of that waitress who figured out it was Dave waiting for a table.

The fact that he went with the flow and didn't raise hell because of who he "is" says a lot about the man.

I note that you are in Wisconsin and closer to the original raunt. Like mentioned the further you go from the source I also think the quality goes down. The only time I have eaten there I got a brisket sandwich. No smoke ring at all and that really bitter tongue numbing smoke flavor….blahhh.

Ditto! I didn't intend for this thread to become a Famous Dave's review, but I agree with you.

Yep, that's one of the things that stood out to me as well. It speaks volumes.

I was thinking it was research as first hand customer experience.

Sounds like Dave is a really great guy. However that alone does not make for good eats.

I have never had Famous Dave's, and probably never will.

I think the great thing here is that a guy with a large network and a recognizable image (to the public) went out of his way to endorse a real BBQ cooker kinda guy!

Whether his restaurant stuff is 1st class or not is immaterial.

What is important is the support he gave and the good that will do BBQ in general.

A good thing for Harry and a good thing for all of us.

JMHO
