I bought this for 25$ Im not sure how old it is. Ive never seen the handles without wood or plastic on it. Any Ideas? Also some ribs for the first cook. The wooden handle in the charcoal, is the passing of the torch. Its off my old Webber that was badly abused by the apartment maintance crew.

What you got there is a mid 70's Weber Bar-B-Kettle, and a helluva a nice one at that! Only thing missing is the ash catcher.
Pretty good score IMO.

Looks like the same one I have except my pull handle is wood too, instead of metal. Don't know if that makes mine newer or older?

I you look at the exhaust plate, you should find a letter and number that you can go to the weber sit and look up what year it was made. I have a lid just like it for my uds but with a broom handle fashioned as a handle.

It's doubtful you'll find a date code on that one. Weber didn't date stamp their stuff until 1979, which would have a date stamp of "A". I think this one is older, but I could be wrong. I'm thinking 1974, 1975.

The kettles with the steel bowl handles are older than ones with wood or plastic.

Great job!!!! Actually it's really kinda funny...

Last Wednesday I picked up the exact same model (no date code, two metal pull handles, & a wooden handle for the lid) for $15... I was told that it was in 'real bad shape', but all I wanted was the lid for my UDS...

Only real damage is to one of the pull handles, other than that and a new grate she's just fine...

Now I really don't have the heart to take the lid and toss the base....

I know, no pron it didn't happen... I'll post some pictures later....

You are correct. The only stamping on the lid is Bar-B- Kettle and a patant number.. I never would have thought that the grill was almost as old as me. Thanks for the info. Harbormaster. Am I able to buy a ash pan?

I don't know if you will be able to get the correct vintage pan. It's the type of pan that has 3 notches in the rim that fit over the legs and rotates to stay in place. Newer versions would have a spring clip for each leg that the un-notched pan would rest on.
All you can do is check with Weber, or watch for someone tossing out an old Weber.

I don't think the leg spacing has changed so this one should work (assuming that it is a 22 1/2". the 18 1/2" pan is here). The Weber site says that it will fit a Bar-B-Kettle.
