Butttt.....

I will probably attempt it tho' - after a few adult beverages with a knife that is too big/too small and pointy as all hell. I should just go ahead and call the local ER to see what the visit is gonna cost me.
I usually double or triple the garlic any recipe calls for. With this new method I'll have time to use 5-6 times the garlic

I tried it with some store bought soft neck garlic...Didn't work...
I see that the gal in the video was peeling a hardneck garlic which usually has a thicker wrapper that peels easier than soft neck...The stores usually sell softneck because it stores longer...

You don't actually use that stuff, or do you?

That's my style too. Still, the peel is annoying. Watching each clove pop out so cleanly in that vid makes me excited to try it.

I gave it a go and it's promising but I need more practice and refine my technique. I got a few half cloves, but the whole ones came out with the peel still attached which doesn't help all that much.

I did fare a bit better when I trimmed the root end. Oh well, I've got some prep work tomorrow which involves garlic so I'll play around some more with it.

It beats the method which was out a few years back of shaking the garlic between two stainless steel bowls.

Definitely call ahead - I once stabbed myself in the leg with a box cutter (always cut *away* from yourselves, kids!) and had to wait longer than I would have preferred to get stitched up, due to showing up at the ER all unscheduled-like.

I don't know if you've seen it, but that garlic peeling video went viral and lots of real cooks took a look at it and tried it out. As it turns out, it doesn't work on garlic clusters that are fresh or tightly packed. It seems to only work on clusters that have dried out or are distinctly not fresh.

So, lots of folks gave it an actual try and found it didn't work. Or, they aren't too impressed with their trips to the ER for the knife injuries. Don't know.

What's the world coming to when you can't trust a YouTube video?
