This one is easy, Lipton has 1 gallon bags. You put 1 bag in a medium pot of water, let it simmer but not boil for 45 minutes then pour it in a 1 gallon container. Add 1 and 3/4 cups of sugar and stir it in while its still hot. Fill the rest of the container with ice and let it sit 20 or 30 minutes before serving. It will be very good stuff.

My favorite for classic sweet tea is Luzianne. Standard recipe is one cup of sugar per gallon. Best way to brew is make simple syrup, turn off heat, and then let bags steep in it about 4-5 minutes depending upon your taste. Longer than 5 and it tends to turn bitter. Pour over ice, top off with water and then stir.

This is the secret Tx Sweet tea that has been in my family as long as I can remember.

Get some Luzianne tea bags the family sized ones Luzianne is the only tea for iced tea

Measure out *1 cup of sugar and 1/8 tsp baking soda( Baking soda removes any bitterness)
Bring to a low boil 24 oz water ( as soon as the water starts to ripple its hot enough)
Pour 1 cup of the water into the sugar/BS mix stir to dissolve
Put 3 teabags into the sugar mixture and pour the remaining 2 cups of hot water over them
Allow to steep until the tea Syrup is room temp remove the Bags giving them a good squeeze
Pour the tea syrup into a 1 gal container and fill it up with cold water.
* We like it with 1 cup if you like it Sweeter go in increments of 1/4 cup to get it where you like it.

Use the Luzianne directions on the box and leave the sugar in the pantry.

The restaurant size sweet tea brewers have a separate tank for corn syrup.

Our family recipe going back to at the 1960's, bring 4 cups of water to a boil, remove from heat, put in 8 Lipton tea bags and let seep for four minutes, remove the bags and add 2/3 cup sugar to the warm water, stir until dissolved, pour into a 1/2 gallon picture and fill with cold water. Serve over ice.

Put 2 family size Lipton bags in a pan of boiling water (about a quart), remove from heat and let steep covered for 10 minutes

Juice 3-4 large lemons (no pulp or seeds)

Put 1.25 to 1.5 cups of sugar in the bottom of a 1 gallon pitcher

pour the steeped tea (do not squeeze the bags) on top of the sugar and stir until the sugar disolves

fill the pitcher with crushed ice then tap water to fill. (not cubes-the ice allegedly "precipitates" the tea)

Pour lemon juice in and stir. It is ready to drink.

It does not keep long. It is best within a half-day of making it. It is an aquired taste, very lemony and sweet. I make it when I do a big cook or for family gatherings. My dad's mother made it and he says I make it better than my mother does, which is quite a compliment from him.

I usually put the sugar on the side as simple syrup. Either way make sure you follow Bludawg's suggestion and use a pinch of baking soda. It really makes the tea smooth, whether sweetened or not.

Take a qt jar. Fill 2/3 way to top w/ Vodka add 1 cup sugar and shake till sugar is disolved.
Add 10 tea bags and set outside in the sun. Wait 3 hrs then squeeze bags. Fill the rest of the way up with WATER.
Mix 1/2 and 1/2 with lemonade. Still has sweet tea in it!

I guess no one here likes "Sun Tea"?

This is how we do "Sun Tea".

Take 3-4 family sized bags of Luzianne tea and put in a gallon size "Sun Tea" jar filled with water. Set the jar outside in the full sun for at least 4 hours.

After the teabags have set in the jar for the desired time, take the teabags out and give the tea a good stir. Add desired amount of sugar to taste then stir again. We then take a large lemon and cut half of it into thin slices and add to the tea jar. Then we take the other half of the lemon and squeeze the juice into the tea jar.

That's how we do our sweet tea ala Sun Tea.

I'm surprised someone from Long Island hasn't offered up their favorite recipe.
LI has a great one named for it!
