He should remove them from display and refuse to sell them. The liability is too risky for the store

They normally sell "Sell or Freeze by.......", but I agree with Revzilla, when in doubt throw it out!

I'd offer him .25 on the dollar. I'm no health inspector but I am cheap.

The only hormel ribs I've ever seen around here are brined so I'd pass just based off that.

Ever seen store wrapped and reseasoned ribs in the case that were "ready to go" all you had to do was take em howm and smoke em or grill em? Ever seen ribs made at the deli counter next to the fried chickens?
Well... what you pointed out was where that comes from. Could be totally safe (because it was frozen) but not always and the person that said a HI would have a ball is right if they caught this out of the freezer. Stores that have issue like these famously take them out of their original packaging and re pack them. They also cook them up that day. Remember Food Lion a few decades ago got caught on camera taking out of date chickens, running through a light bleach solution and spicing them up (so you can't smell they were bad) or making "hot and spicy fried chicken?"

That's a fact.
Right down the street, a store had out of date meat on display for sale. Someone spoke with the meat dept manager and was told to "fark off". That person called the HD. Pissed him off. Store was given a small fine and a clear warning. A month later, they were at it again. Same dude called the HD again without messing with the meat dept manager. HD closed the meat dept and hit them with a huge fine and a list of requirements to get back in business. #1 was to replace the meat dept manager. Took a couple of weeks, but they got back in business and have done it right since then. Serious business down here. TIM

don't do it. there will be sales of meat that is not expired. hell I just bought 4 full tenderloins of beef for $3.99 per lb... yes that is not a typo. I also bought baby backs for $3.99 per lb from my local shop rite. sometimes they over order.... this weeks sale is live lobster at $4.99 per lb, I have two 8 lb lobsters on order for Saturday (last day of sale). I never buy anything that might be ok, especially with food, you want to take the least amount of chances... expired meat is never a good idea.

more than likely the meat is fine, point it out and see if the guy will dicker. what was his starting price?
i have made hormel brined ribs and although they dont turn out like unbrined ribs, they taste the most wicked smoked ham you ever had. i personally wouldnt be afraid if the price was right. PMT is right, i am sure you have unknowingly eaten much scarier meat.

If I could buy it dirt cheap I'd do it. What the heck. I've gotten stuff from my own freezer that was further out of date than that. As far as the HI, who wants to get him involved. In this deal we know we are taking a chance...thats why we want to buy it cheap. Now if I was cooking a comp...no way.
