This email was sent out today from Betty Cates:

I want to thank all the teams for their patience while we try and set our 2011 schedule.

We are currently negotiating with several casinos in Las Vegas, Nevada, Mississippi and Hollywood. The event we're trying to create is a $200,000 purse which includes a "vacation style" package. Entry fee would include up to three nights lodging, buffets, show tickets and a welcome banquet. The casinos do not see the sense of urgency to get our date set so I can finalize our schedule.

Our goal is to secure more sponsor dollars so we can keep entry fees to a minimum. The smaller events will be in the $300 range and the $200,000 event would be in the $450 range. Also hoping to rework our NASCAR deal to lower that fee as well. They make us purchase two tickets per team, and that cost has to be offset regardless if you attend the race or not. When you add the ticket price into the equation, it is a great value. We understand the cost of competing and are trying to do our part to save you money. Unfortunately, with the big dollar events, if you want to play, you have to pay to cover our production costs.

I'm hoping to have everything finalized by the end of month. The $100,000 USA Championship in March is being "postponed" since we're only 2 months out. Once we get our casino event finalized, we will announce all the dates.

Our intentions are all the NASCAR events, Daytona July, Michigan August, Talladega Oct, Phoenix November. Vegas or other casino date is May and Pine Bluff is September.

I apologize for any inconvenience, but if you will keep checking our website www.smokeonthewaterbbq.com, hopefully by the end of month all dates will be secured. Our plans are to have all contests KCBS sanctioned and we will also send out another announcement as soon as we know.

A Tunica SOTW package would be killer, but it's a shame that the NLR event has been "postponed." Last year Ron said he signed a multi-year deal for that contest...interesting.

Could be postponed to later date, maybe it is still in the plans.
