6 Hogbutts BBQ (vends and mentors with us at Harpoon)

We are proud of all our students that got a call this weekend !

It started raining a little after midnight Sunday morning and never ended. Wow. That's about all I can say.

Like last year it was a great event; I really appreciated how they moved awards up so everyone could get out of there.

Can't wait for next year!

...with me it got to a point it was raining for so long and steady that I totally forgot about it and it wasn't even a factor. It wasn't that kind of damp cold rain that just chills your bones, so that helped.

Great event, Bob does a nice job putting this event together!

Congrasts ISS! on the win and to Dave on RGC. Even with all the rain it still was a great event. Bob does an excellent job. Was really excited about finally winning in chicken. The curse is far from over though . Last year I got my first ever call in chix at this same contest, a 3rd. This year a first. 1 & 3 One month after this very contest last year i won back my own award at Sayville with a 13th place finish. This year one month after this contest I will be in Lynchburg, hmmmmmmm.

BTW Steves class is worth every penny and has much to do with how much I have improved since taking it. The chicken this past weekend was completely different than what he does though:tongue:

sure is worth every penny when you start opening envelopes with some nice size checks inside. As I was walking away holding the trophies Iwas more interested in the winning feeling than about $$$ - The money will be going towards a new transmission which I blew going home Saturday morning for more equipment. but I am glad I have the money to pay for it:-D
My chicken is also different than what I learned at ISS class. Mine is actually made from things going bad and a mistake which I turned into a positive and still do it that way.
But that is what is good about the class is that you learn more than copying exactly what ISS does. You learn technique (I guess is a good word)
And a big Thanks To Bob LeRose - he puts in a lot of hours putting this together for us! Doing the signs for the event I see first hand how hard he works.

Hey Guys,

I'm a newbie on this board but have been lurking for a while to pick up tips on improving my barbecue. So, I wanted to start by saying thanks to all of you for the great advice, opinion, debate and humor you provide here.

My teammate Scott and I just competed for our first time ever in the Backyard Competition in Westport, CT. We had never done anything like that before, so all the more reason boards like this one proved to be so valuable to us. Beginning to learn what to do in competition vs. at home was a real eye opener.

Needless to say, we had a total blast at the Westport festival and we even won the Backyard Grand Prize - insane! Bob LeRose did an amazing job putting this event together. I also especially enjoyed talking with some of the pro team members on Saturday night as they were prepping their meat; such nice and knowledgeable folks.

It's safe to say that we are offically hooked on competing. I figure we'll try to get a few more amateur competitions under our belts and then, who knows, maybe the real deal eventually if time and money permits.

Thanks again,

Gregg
