Default Thinking of competing

I have only been doing this seriously since August. However, I am very interested in joining a non sanctioned comp this August. The 100 entry is cheap. My wife and daughter (6) plan to help. Any creative suggestions for a team name with me and my girls incorporated into it? I am at a loss. Thanks!

Fark it, you should just hang out and enter a throwdown.

A throwdown sounds like a good time too.

Jump in and see how you do...what is it going to hurt?

Ahh, the $100 entry is cheap...but you forget about the other $200-300 you will spend to compete.

When you come up with a name, Google it, check it on Facebook, check it on KCBS website, and check it at bbqteamnames.com to make sure it is not taken...then post it here for us to comment on ;-)

Give us a little more to work with. What other hobbies do you have, or what type of things do you like to do with the girls? Also is there anything unique about Menasha and the area that can be used in a team name?

You should also plan on visiting a competition or two to see what goes on to make sure that you like it. Look at the KCBS site to see what's close to you and then check here as the comp gets closer and you'll probably find a few Brethren teams who will be there.

You could always go with a team name that doesn't mean anything

I would skip the non sanctioned and go to a KCBS. Last non sanctioned we were at we never saw the scores . At least with KCBS you get the scores and you know the process for scoring etc. Theres a Kcbs here in Wi thats less then the entry you mentioned . Theres a non sanctioned in your area that discouraged teams they didnt want from entering . To me theres no credibility for those folks.

Jump in, it's a good time. Lots of fun to just get in there and get cooking. Anyone can win, you will learn as you go. My first one we did some ugly turn in boxes, the brisket wasn't trimmed down, the chicken looked like boneless twinkies and the pulled pork was just a pile. Great time though, good people in bbq are always willing to help you out.

Coz, are you talking about Poor Q in Montello? I am judging that for my first judging comp. Maybe I just enter instead! This non sanctioned that I mentioned is run like a KCBS. This is their second year trying to iron out he kinks before becoming sanctioned. PM me if we are talking the same comp.

Thanks for all of he encouragement everyone. As was said in another thread, this is addicting.
