My Dear Easy-Up Pavilion, R.I.P.
It survived all heavy storms but the last one. I should have seen it coming, that the easy-up mechanism was the weak link in that construction, which could not hold the weight of rain-water not running down the cover fast enough. It's total kaput now, several rods are broken or bent, making a repair impossible. At least my WSM was still standing intact. I already fetched a new pavilion today, which has no easy-up mechanism, but a steel pipe construction. I'll post a picture of my cooking area with the new pavilion in my cooking report of next weekend's cook.

Water weight took mine out, too.
I bought a new frame, and put grommets in my canopy right where water likes to collect. My canopy has a company logo on it (read: expensive), that was unharmed, so I wanted to keep that. BTW, the EZ-Up warrantee covers that collapse, as long as you are within the warrantee period. Mine was a couple years out of warrantee, and the seller sold me a new frame for 25-pecent off. CD |

I feel your pain, we just lost our 10x10 last weekend. I went for pizza and then the storm ran in. We had 4 people holding onto it but the wind still took her up and on top of my roof. Everything is bent and broken, pains me to put her down, only used it 3 times.

I already assembled the new pavilion yesterday, but although I had high expectation (no easy-up mechanism, but a steel pipe construction instead) it's definitely not a bit better than the easy-up. At least the canopy can be removed easier with the new one, so I can let the steel pipe construction stay in the garden all the time, and only mount and unmount the canopy when needed. I'll post pictures in my full report of upcoming Sunday's cook.

Ouch, for the canopies to cost $100+ they sure are some CHEAP-O piece of chit.

Mine fell victim to the last wind storm we had too. It had been on it's last leg (literally lol) for a while, so it was only a matter of time.
Put the frame out to the curb, less than 5 minutes later a scrapper took it away for me. We upgraded our comp set up to one of these, best investment we've made: http://www.ebay.com/itm/20x10-Heavy-...item4abab4726d

I have a friend who uses them for his business. If one of his gets twisted up he just repairs it with parts that are recycled from twisted up ones that he found on the curb. Whenever he sees a bent one in the trash he grabs it and has made 2 or 3 complete EZUPS just from ones he found in the trash. He also told me that the ones with the sprung pole in the center handles the rain the best, so if I see one of this on the curb, I'm grabbing it.
I actually have my neighbors first up in my shop for repair and am waiting to see one in the trash to get the parts needed to fix it. Chris |

They are great for shade, they are after all just a glorified umbrella. Heck a decent patio umbrella is 80 bucks. They are what they are and accidents happen, its part of it. For us it is usually wind that kills us can not get the canopy off quick enough but stuff happens. I use a swap meet type tarp during the rain the A frame works best.

Glad you gotcher cash back!
My SIL borrowed my EZ Up a couple of weekends ago and left it up in the backyard for a couple of days (shoulda known that would happen) and sure enough, big storm rolls in and blows the sonuva brisket across the yard and over a 6 foot fence - no damage! She got lucky! The fence blocked the wind from carrying it any further and causing damage.

First picture of the new (non-easy-up) pavilion:
It looks nice, but is of the lowest quality imaginable. I don't know if made in China or Turkey, but the enclosed manual was in Turkish language only. It took quite some time to assemble, a lot of screws involved, at least the canopy can be mounted/unmounted easier than with the Easy-Up. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, and both cost about the same (not much at least). It will definitely be intersting to see how long it lasts.
