Default Home made smokers

Sitting here in the hills of south east Tn waiting for the second set of storms to roll in I had a brain f__t ! I have some land here and have a lot of wood,oak and hickory and could have a big smoker on it.My Idea,haha was to use cinder block or bricks to build a smoker my question is do bricks and cinder blocks make good smokers ? or is one better than the other or should I stick with metal ?
