Start hunting some Vision kamados down at Sam's locations. There are guys grabbing them for $249-$299 closeout price.

I grabbed one of the Vision's from Sam's for $250 but after assembling and seeing them in person, I'd give $500 for one in a heartbeat.

Oh man! I've looked and looked and looked. Nothing close to me or any of my family. Seems most people who were getting the great deals were all up in the northern states.

BUT, I have to ask are you like me and tend to dwell on what you originally wanted even after buying something cheaper that probably does just as good of a job? Or are you the kind of person that takes a sort of pride in getting similar product out of a much cheaper device than the one you wanted at first? If you're anywhere near like option A I'd save up and buy what you originally want. Otherwise you'll wind up buying again. If you're like option B then go get your Akorn and get to cooking and be happy. |

However, I also like getting a similar product and take pride in saving money if it turns out to be a good product. In my opinion that's where the Vision comes into play. About half the cost of a large BGE or Primo but very good reviews from people who own them. I could say basically the same thing about the Akorn too though when compared to the Vision (and other kamados). Are the ceramic cookers really pretty fragile? I don't mistreat my stuff by any means, but whatever I get will be moved around my patio quite often. The Vision on display at Sam's this summer was chipped in several spots inside the cooking area is why I'm asking (one chip in particular was about 2" long). But on display in Sam's lord knows who or what was playing with that thing!

You could purchase an Akorn from a seller or on Craigslist and learn how to use a kamado style grill/smoker. If you like the Akorn, you are set. If you would like to try something different you can sell the Akorn and purchase another grille.
