I recently watched some YouTube videos by Baby Back Maniac where he reviewed the new Weber Limited Edition Red Kettle. I was immediately drawn to the red color for some reason. :becky: Since I already had a standard black kettle and I didn’t have an extra $200.00 burning a hole in my pocket I figured I’d just have to make do with what I had. Yesterday I noticed they were on sale at Ace Hardware for $149.99 (a 25% discount) and I figured it was a sign that I had to buy one. :-D
Well here it is

and the unboxing and assembly pics will follow:

New and nicer wheels included.

Put some cardboard down and installed the vent / ash assembly.

The legs, wheels and shelf.

The lid rest assembly.

The ash pan

and the handle.

Put in the charcoal and grill grates.

Then installed the handle and placed the lid on it.

I wheeled in out from under the patio roof where I took a few more pics before doing a seasoning burn. Lid moved back onto the rest. (Nice!)

Nice new thermometer and Limited Edition plaque.

Now I started a chimney full of KBB

and let the kettle settle in on a seasoning burn.

So pretty!

Thanks for looking.

Nice. Home Depot has been marking them down to $99. How's the paint quality? I read somewhere that this model was manufactured in china and the paint is cheap. But I love the red as well. Looks great.

I just seen this at Home Depot tonight. It is $99. The WSM 18.5 is marked down to $224 and the Red Kettle is $99.

I have one and use it occasionally. I keep it covered when I'm not using it but the paint has held up fine so far.

I got one for Christmas and I love it.

I don't think the paint defects show up over time; rather, many of the units left the factory defective so when you open the box, there are a lot of paint issues. My first one was like that, so I exchanged it at Lowes and checked the second unit in the store. Then complained to Weber and they sent me a free cover and free gourmet grill grates. Epic customer service!

No more hook underside the lid? Mounting the lid "rest" is necessary?

That seems inconvenient to me, and also seems it would scratch the lid up over time.
I guess a guy(or gal) could fab a hook and secure with the handle hardware.

Good post, thx!

I saw one on sale here (at the equivalent of over $300!) and the lid slips right into the holder as if on a hinge. It is smooth and super convenient, way better than hooking it, IMO.

The paint looked okay, the only thing that felt a bit rough was the upper vent, it scratched a bit when being turned. I love Weber kettles.

I can't see them sticking with it if it didn't work well...so it must be fine.

I switch my hot side around to burn off grease sometimes. This seems it would make that less convenient. I'll have to check one out next time I'm at HD. I don't need a third, but if I like the lid deal, and see a green one for $99, she might be coming home with me.

Got the green light from the wife to buy a new kettle a few weeks ago. Went to Ace cause I saw it advertised for $149 on their website. They had 1 red one left, floor model. Got another 15% off cause it was off the floor. If you can find the red one, get it. It cooks a lot faster than all of the other colors. Just ask Smitty...buy it in red it goes faster. If they only had it in camo.

I really wish they'd do a limited edition with that royal blue!

Amen, Brother! I'm a University of Michigan fan and am disappointed with the color selection. Copper looks too much like the golden dome helmets of Notre Dame, the green is MSU's color, and the red looks too much like Ohio State's scarlet. A blue one would be perfect. Go Blue!

I have one that is very similar in color that I have owned for approximately 15 years. Had to replace the ash sweeper blades a couple of times but overall it still looks pretty good.

So an update on this purchase. When I got the box home there was no visible damage to the out of the box so I didn't inspect each component very carefully. Once I got everything together I noticed a chip on the rim of the lid. (See Pic)

I registered my kettle and then processed a warranty claim for this. I included a link to the picture but they couldn't open the link so they asked me to email them the picture, which I did. That very day I got an email stating that they were shipping me a new lid and that they would provide me with a UPS tracking number in a day or 2. Today the lid arrived and all is right with my kettle. :becky:

Here's to the Weber Stephen Company. Way to take care of the customer. :thumb:
