The first tomato from the garden!

Shortly after this was taken it became part of some BLAT sammies! That would be Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado and Tomato.

I LOVE garden fresh tomatoes!

Good Ol RonL...
a little coffee and and a great tomato....

salt or sugar on their tomato.

I have never had the plesure of growing home grown tomatoes, but I have a very nice lady at work who brings me a few bags of tomatoes and fresh jalapenos. The jalapenos aren't hot, they have a sweet taste with a bit of a bite after you eat half of it. My crazy idea was to dehydrate some and put them in my rub just for a little kick.

Grow some tomatoes with Jalepenos plated next to them.
Then dehydrate both together.

That one was from an Early Girl bush plant. A second 'mater is starting to turn orange now. I have four plants in containers on the deck to protect them from the critters. One Early Girl, one Big Boy (I keep them separated ) one heirloom yellow and one cherry. All of the plants are loaded with fruit.

I must be doing something wrong. I have tried containers, bales of straw, and now a specific spot in an herb garden for them...this year, first the birds were pecking at them, and then so much rain, a lot of splits in thte tops. Don't look too good. Pulled a couple off to finish ripening, maybe they will taste good.

How big of containers are you using?

Mine are not happy- too much rain this summer!

I did plant one in a container on the patio, and it's doing much better than the rest.

So far, I've harvested exactly three grape tomatoes from the garden.

You folks that have maters on the vine are lucky... Here in the North West the plants are still in the growing stages and no maters showing. I have pinched a few blooms off to let the plants get bigger. Just hope for a late winter so the temps don't dip below freezing, last year had about 50 or so that never made it... Had to toss them all!!! But I keep trying!
