BGE Gasket Nomex or Regular?
Is Nomex worth the Extra $10. Any advantages sealing or life. I've looked at Naked whiz and searched here lots of mentions just want some opinions. Found plenty of descriptions and tips but any new ones would be great.

You haven't fried your gasket already have you? The standard gaskets are fine but I install them with 3m Super 77 spray adhesive which is what they do with the nomex gaskets. Scrape the old gasket with a scraper and then get chemical gloves and a bowl of laquer thinner (I know they say acetone but the distributor has told me laquer thinner works best) and a scotchbrite pad and scrub the rim super clean. The wipe it down again before installing the gasket. If using the standard let it set for 24 hours before heating and do several low heat cooks before goig volcano with steaks. If going nomex or standard and using Super 77 it can be used about 2 hours after install.
I just installed new gaskets on both my large & XL BEs.

Compared to the standard gaskets, Yes! You do not want to be replacing the gasket very often. I really think the key is to do several ... several and then some low temp cooks to set the gasket.

Nomex is the way to go!
If you haven't replaced a gasket before, the prep time ( cleaning the old gasket off and masking for the spray glue ) is just as important as laying that new gasket in place. I believe fredsmusicandbbq.com has a step-by-step video for the nomex gasket. |

I know there's a big divide between the two camps, but when my gasket fried I used the Rutland gasket.
It's been on for 3 years now and no issues. fred |

No mine is showing some burn etc... I noticed when making some burgers last night. I'm going to Dollar test it today (after it cooled).
I want to be prepared so I was going to order one and have it on hand. I just don't want to have to eat Spagetti-O's for a week while I wait for it to come in then install it and wait. Maybe I need another egg or UDS for some variety.
