Mine is a $6.99 candy thermometer from the local hardware store. It didn't have threads on the back so I mounted it just above a short stainless bolt and secured it inside the drum with a stainless hose clamp.

Works great!

Just did the test burn yesterday. Went over 5 hours at 225-240. 4 of those hours were unattended! The uniflame top is not a perfect circle, I get a little bit of smoke leak out on the sides. Ive hammered it down as good as it will get. It will do untill I run across a weber top. I cant decide if im going to leave it ugly or paint it up.

First time using Old Ugly today with ribs. I think it will hold 250 degrees forever.

Chicken, brisket, ribs, and shoulder, all came out to rave reviews and a mid pack finish at my first comp for shoulder.
