Here's some pictures. Just got back from the event. It was a great time.
First time being a judge....more on that later... GC was Cecil's BBQ. A father, mother and young son team competing for THE VERY FIRST TIME... There were all kinds of different rigs. Here's a few of the "different" once. There was entertainment: Elvis was in the house: Looking down the street: Do you see what I saw: Brian in So Cal first thing this morning. It wasn't pretty: Gary and Brian after Notley Que picked up 1st in Brisket. They were hugging like this all day: JTFisher (Smokepranos) also walked with a 3rd in Brisket. It was a great time. And hanging out with Brian and Gary was a "treat."

So you caught that. There was a "competitor" competition going on at the same time as the "Championship." It was designed for the backyard person that wanted to just get a taste of what it's like to compete. Gas was allowed for that competition.
They also allowed that group to cook any type of rib. The best rib of the entire day that I tasted came out of that group. It was a beef short rib cooked with some type of asian seasonings. It rocked. I would love to get that recipe. The West Coast BBQ Championship was help as part of the Fairfield, California Tomato Festival. So there were lots of people there that would not normally have been exposed to a bbq comp. Combine that with the "competitor" competition and a lot of people came away with some great ideas about what real bbq was about.
