That just sounds like a crazy great deal! Any prime beef cuts by me are in the area of $14.00 lb.

TJ's is an excellent store. I do like the charcoal and the meats. Yes, Australia produces a great deal of beef and they can be very competitive on price and quality. I have rarely been disappointed with anything from Trader Joe's.
The beer, wine and booze prices are usually good. Snacks are delicious too.

I love Trader Joe's. We had one in Annapolis, but not where I live now. Have to drive 3 hours to the closest one

Smart & Final tri tips around here are usually select cuts at those low prices.
TJ's tri tips come from New Zealand, including other cuts such as flat iron.

Hey Offthehook,
Can you tell us why you don't care for TJ's tri tips? I've been using their's since tri tips aren't very common around here.

Can't comment on the tri tip, but I've always had good at Trader Joe's. I was in San Fransisco on business and there was one right down the street from my hotel. Not only did they have ACTUAL 2 buck chuck (it's $2.99-$3.99 a bottle here) but they had a HUGE selection of Napa Valley wines for between $5 and $8 a bottle. The same wines here would be in the $12-$20 range. They also had a great selection of micro and craft beers for about half what we'd pay here on the right coast.
We have a few in our area here and really like the selection and prices. |

One thing I have noticed about Australian beef is the cows are grass fed. This makes the meat richer than corn fed.
Check the package to see if it says anything about grass. ~cheers |

Perhaps just the flat irons are marked product of New Zealand. I've purchased plenty of those from TJ's. For tri-tips I go to regular supermarkets which sell them at lower prices.
