Default preparing for cold weather

Having an Assassin 48 that I enjoy cooking on, but it only has a insulated door. I live in the north east where it gets cold in the winter, so I made an insulated jacket for my 48. It has two welding blankets folded in half and a moving blanket in between to add extra insulation. I did a cook today and the weather was only in the mid 40's but it seemed to help, time will tell.Assassin.jpg

Doing a cold weather test cook today. It's 28 degrees and breezy, so that will give me a chance to see how much my insulating blanket helps.

You just wanna make sure that welding blanket doesn't shed fibers. Looks like it should hold in some heat.

I totally agree, that's why on the cut edges I sewed them together and then sealed them with high temperature silicone.

I'm thinking it would help hold the heat pretty good. Some strategically attached magnets could help hold it to the smoker better in high windy periods.

That is a great idea about the magnets, I'm going to look into that.
