This slicer good or something else?

It's way better than my P.O.S. slicer. But I didn't pay 300 bucks.

Yeah - I figure buy once cry once for something that will get a decent amount of use and has a lot of moving parts/motor etc. so willing to stay in the $300ish range.

My advice is to watch craigslist and find a good used Hobart or Berkel slicer. I picked up one 4 years ago for 150$

I'm in the same boat, would rather buy quality that will last, but probably will step up to a 12" Slicer so I can cut home made bacon. Been watching Craigslist and FB Marketplace but no deals to be found.

For the price this looks like a great slicer with tons of positive reviews.

I know when I was searching the other day that one came up as a good one, however it's hard to tell whether the reviewers actually try them out or just compile ratings from other sites and base recommendations from those.

I had a cheap slicer but the food carriage only allowed like 7.5 inch wide piece of meat, that's why I was looking for something different. People would say get a 10 or 12 inch but I found the blade size doesn't always mean it will cut a wider piece of meat, taller yes. So keep that in mind. I also found it's really hard to find info on how wide a piece you can fit in the different slicers.

If I had tons of extra money I would get a nice slicer that could handle whatever and if I had a bigger house with more storage I could do that.

Instead I went with the Chefs Choice 615A which happened to pop up on Woot for 99 bucks. Just got it 2 days ago and can confirm you can fit a 9.5 inch wide piece of meat on the carriage.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the one you listed can only hold a 7.5 or 8 inch wide piece of meat which was too small for me.

Anyway, I just thought I would throw out that little tidbit of info.

This is a commercial slicer so, I'd be surprised if it didn't exceed expectations.

It is NSF certified and V-belt drive so, I'd think it would be a big advantage over similar or cheaper slicers with gear drives. The on-off switch is an improvement over competitors too.

I want to be able to slice Mongolian BBQ style meats for my griddle at home among other uses for a slicer. It is amazing to me how slicers vary in price, but I guess that can be said for many things.

Is this a decent brand/model? I like the 10" blade versus the 7/7.5".

Thoughts?

Any of these modern light weight slicers are great for deli type use involving light loads of lunch meat or cheese.

If you want to slice 1/2" pieces or more of pork butts to make country style ribs or Al Pastor or big beef roasts for carne asada slices etc. look to an older used commercial model.

These newer light weight slicers will walk right away from you on the counter top with heavy loads on them as you slide the slicer tray away from you into the blade.

It's a good slicer, I had one years ago before I got my Berkels.

However at $298.00 for the 10", I'd go for the next step up with a 12" Stainless for $338.00.

But only you have to be happy with your choice and purchase.

The reviews on the link in your post are not very good. I would look at the two posted below. Or as suggested, keep looking for a Hobart or Berkel. If you have any friend in bigger cities like Houston or Dallas, have them check out used restaurant equipment stores. Please not that a slicer such as these take up a good deal of counter space and are heavy to move. I have a Berkel that I bought in 1998 for $700 and have put a lot of meat through it. At one point about 10 years ago I used a gift card to buy a light weight Chef's Choice for about $100 on sale at Sears. It will do in a pinch and is easy to move around. Out of the box the blade is dull and the motor woefully under powered. I gave it to my son, who also has a disdain for the dull under powered aspects. He uses it to slice raw deer meat for jerky.

Good luck with your choice.

How big of a difference is there between a 10" and 12" … I know the answer is obvious, and like most men I'd be happy with 2 more inches, but in all seriousness, would it make much of a difference for home use?

Is this the one you're referring to? This is the only 12" I saw for $338.

Yes....

It makes all the difference if you're slicing large items like a slab of bacon, brisket, corned beef, ham, pastrami, or a large roast. But you can always cut your slabs of bacon in half, or trim down the other items so they fit.

You have to remember that it's just not the blade that's smaller, but also the length of travel in the carriage is shorter as well.

For a chuckle one should download the Owner's Manual.......

This company produces the food slicing machine in comprehensive home and abroad the same
kind product based on the advantage of, achieves the operation more convenient, use more
safety.

I also see a 250 watt rated motor and most 12" slicers are 320 and higher. Still, I wish someone here would get one and post a review.

My question to the slicer experts would be what is the requirement to slice cheese??? Some say they do and others (webrestaurant links above) say "no"

If you have the space for it, I'd check out this Berkel. It appears to be an 808 or a 909 12" slicer.

It will handle anything you can throw at it.
