Default Truth Bbq In Houston

Just thought I'd throw out there that the new location of Truth Bbq opened a week or so ago in Houston. I went opening day, waited in a 3 hour line to get my food but it was totally worth it. It's taken over my top spot for best bbq I've had in Texas. They have huge windows into the pit room that allow you to see the 5, yes 5 Moberg 1000 gallon smokers. A true thing of beauty. If you live in the area you really should go eat there soon. P.s. They have huge homemade cakes.

The Brenham location was awesome so I'm excited to try this one. I plan to go check it out next month when I'm in town for the rodeo.

This is how all bbq places should be: allow you to see what type of cooker they are throwing the meats on. That’s half the appeal to me.

Just read the Houston Chronicle article about their corporate investor.
Just curious how much did that beautiful plate of Q set you back?? Did they shutter the Brenham location or keep it running?

I stood in line at Cattleack Thanksgiving— while really good I won’t do that again.
It’s a blast tasting the Texas Top Rated BBQ Restaurants.

A grand plate. That’s freakin awesome seeing the cookers and prep area.

Having investors does not make this "corporate" in the negative connotation it is being used. I guess where I invest in real estate and business dealings I must now be that evil "corporate" also.

And if it wasn't for that "evil corporate", ahem investor, you wouldn't have such a big awesome place as there wouldn't be the money for it.

Never called it what you said. You missed. In another thread I lamented the observation that our hobby is really big time. Destination dining. Whether golf, fly fishing, hunting leases etc any hobby “Me” personally enjoys, eventually becomes priced to a point I am either unable or unwilling to pay. Yours and their business is zero my business. I wish you and them well. Just an observation on the “state of bbq”

An example. Friends of mine are going flyfishing in March to South America. All are on expense accounts except one. He’s paying $15,000.00 to fish for 10 days plus tip. It does include two meals per day.

Fair enough. My apologies if I misread.

It seems like so many lefty-socialists this day use the word "corporate" as an evil dig and blame corporations for all the evils in the world that I read more into it than was intended.

Funny they forget the hundreds of millions socialism is directly responsible for killing and the fact socialism is outright illegal and forbidden in the US yet they still push it.

Again, my apologies.

All good. Just me and lamenting my hobby choices . :-)

One fun fact about the fishing trip. My friend gets a discount for riding a burro two hours instead of the helicopter. That would’ve been more.

I agree with 16Adams. Most of my hobbies have priced me out.
Raced RC oval for years. Just did not want to spend the $$ to keep up.
Played golf for years, same thing. Green fees way to much.
And I agree, restaurant Q @ $20-$25 lb and $5 for mac and cheese is not for me. As most of us know we can produce better tasting Q at home and for a better cost. I really enjoy firing up one of my BGEs or the Shirley and sit back with a few adult beverages and enjoy the day. No loud music where you can't have a conversation. And that's what we do.
If Shelly and I do go out somewhere for Q we typically just sample and share. And try not to spend $40-$50 on a meal for two.
Did I mention I'm retired!!

I kinda wonder if this surge of popularity (and price at the places that put out really good food) is a bubble that won't last forever. I remember thinking to myself several years ago that craft brewing has to be near critical mass, all these little breweries popping up basically doing the same thing (I mean how many ways can you make a pale ale?)....well now between corporate buyouts and market saturation I think we've passed critical mass and a bunch in my region have been closing or gobbled up. I'd hate to see BBQ suffer the same fate by rising too fast and too far.

Well the story is thst Johnny Carraba told the guy who started the place that he would invest a certain amount of money in opening a location in Houston depending on how high the restaurant got on the Texas monthly top 50. Apparently they had to get in the top 10 to get any money and they got tenth so obviously they got plenty of money, but how much could they have gotten? This is just a rumor though so who knows what the truth is. I got a 2 meat plate and added a sausage link. With a drink it was 19 dollars and change. I think they changed the menu though after they were open a few days and got rid of the plates which disappoints me a bit.
