Just picked up a couple more BBQ books. Road Trip by Ray and Legends of Texas Barbecue by Robb Walsh. I like books that have a little history and life experience in them, they don't have to be recipes from front to back. I was just wondering what kinda books you guy's like.

I like history and experience in my books, with some recipes or ideas in them I can translate to recipes. I really do not spend my Q time trying every recipe ever printed by every author. Instead I rely on inspiration to make my BBQ better. For that reason I am not as interested in recipe tomes. However, recipe tomes can also provide inspiration. I have more fun reading good stories though.

You picked up two of my favorites. If you like the Walsh book, and Tex-Mex food he has another book that I like better than his BBQ book.

Heck you said it better then I did Chris.
Peace, love, and BBQ is one of my favorites to.

I enjoy this book for the old photos and stories of old time BBQ:
North Carolina Barbecue: Flavored By Time
by Bob Garner

I'll second that.

Also Grand Barbecue and Searching for the Dixie BBQ are pretty good and along those same lines.

http://www.amazon.com/Grand-Barbecu...=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199827041&sr=8-5

but the NC BBQ one is the best of the 3 IMO

This is the one that got me going
http://www.amazon.com/Thrill-Grill-Techniques-Down-Home-Barbecue/dp/0688088325

and this one also
http://www.amazon.com/Uncle-Billys-Downeast-Barbeque-Book/dp/0962251801

There are so many more that I have in my library but this is what got me started.

Anchorman, I thought I was the only one who had ever heard of Uncle Billy's Downeast Barbecue.
Did you ever get to eat in Jonathan's restaurant[Portland, Maine?]

I am fond of all of Cris Schlinsher's{spelling} books too.

Yes about 16 years ago, though...

Coloring.

I recommend "Smokestack Lightning ...Adventures in the Heart of Barbecue Country" by Lolis Eric Elie. It is excellent.

I've seen you color and you can't stay in the lines that and your not suppose to eat the crayons Tom. LOL

My guess is that those pices aren't correct:shock:
I suspect that they are correct. The Thrill of The Grill was a large number pub, the Uncle Billys is a small Publisher. Plus Uncle Billy's Downeast Barbecue is gone, as far as I know, and the book is out of print. Therefore colloctor value drives up the price.

I have been offered over $500 for my mint condition first edition [hardback] copy of "Smokestack Lightning".

I have several editions similar to Uncle Billy's that are worth [well, maybe not WORTH], but sell for big bucks.

I sold a First edition of Julia Child's French Cooking for 450.00 years ago.
