We'll my Dad was in town and he's never seen a UDS, to boot Dan the charcoal man dropped my order off. So figured what the heck its only -38⁰F out fire the Drum up I can smoke this :) Emptied the KF blue out of the charcoal basket loaded it up with the new WG weekend warrior lump some pecan and apple chunks and lite it off. :-D Never used this drum at any higher temp then 230⁰F and no colder than -10⁰F so figured I'd crank it up to 300⁰F and it worked like a charm ran rock steady at 300⁰F with 2 intakes open no insulation :clap2: its -38⁰F out. Cook went perfect tasted GREAT. My first Pork Loin!! Had to cook the GF a ribeye she works at 4AM and wouldn't be awake for the Pork Loin. Want to give Sandiegobbq thanks for the advice on the loin cook temp and ideas in chat, was my first time cooking a Pork loin and was short notice idea :thumb:

Good job I knew it would work out well for you.

Glad I could offer my advice.

Even if you are a Steelers fan!

Looks awesome PWA! Great looking loin... But MAN... you got alotta snot on your truck!!! 8 inches AT LEAST!

lol,
Cheers.

Yep lots of snot!! That truck doesn't move much anymore I'm storing it for my little brother... he needs to rebuild the trany(meaning I will have to for a couple case of beer) to make it run 100%

That must be an all-time lowest ambient temp... cranking out the thin blue smoke.... successfully even. (Snaggletooth mod)

Thanks,

Next time we get a cold spell may see if I can push it more... Love showing that if your willing you can smoke yr round, no such thing as taking the winter off. The smoker is willing if you are.

That's how we do in the 907!!! :D

You beat my personal record of 3 degrees above 0. But not often that cold down in the big city.

Have to say I don't mind not having to deal with snow and temps like that when BBQ'ing nowadays, but come August I wish I was back home.

That's great! Dedication. :thumb:

I did a smoke last year when it was like -6* or so. How much fuel did it use? With two vents open and -34*, I'm guessing a bit more than normal. Consider wrapping your smoke with a welding blanket or some other type of insulation. It will help conserve charcoal, which will come in handy on a longer cook.

I had no idea thermometers went backwards like that! Here in God's Country  We don't need them to go much past 40F.
