Need a Baked Bean Recipe
I have been asked to do a cook for about 70+ kids and I need a good but simple Baked Bean recipe. I would like to work with canned beans and jazz them up a little.
Can anyone give me any suggestions? Please |

These are really good! Wampus's Peach Bourbon Baked Beans:
http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/sh...d.php?t=105995 You CAN leave out the bourbon for the kiddies.

Canned apple pie filling is a hit when mixed with canned beans and brown sugar.

I do a pretty basic thing that generally is well received. To a couple of big cans (40oz) I add 1 large or a couple of medium chopped onions, about 8 ounces of tangy BBQ sauce (I use Montgomery Inn Ribs King), couple of tablespoons of yellow mustard and about a tablespoon of brown sugar. Bake that up for about 45 minutes or so @ 350 and bingo. I think the tangy sauce is the key - most canned baked beans are on the sweet side so you want a sauce that has some bite.

Thanks Komoman. The reason why I am at a bit of a loss is because it is for High School kids. Many can be somewhat picky. I have seen some freak out over just seeing chopped onion in something. If it was for the guys I would have no problem. I have a time factor squeeze and I am trying to pack as much flavor in while keeping it simple.

My baked beans disappear everytime I make them.
1 big can of beans between 1 and 2 lbs of bbq (pulled pork, leftover brisket, rib trimmings etc etc) 1 onion 1 green pepper bbq sauce ( I use sweet baby rays) Brown sugar to taste ( i would use a cup or so for the big can of beans) bbq rub couple cloves of garlic Chop the bbq, onion, garlic and green pepper. saute the onion until clear with the green pepper and garlic. mix in the bbq and cook for a few minutes to get the flavors to meld. mix the bbq/onion garlic gp mixture in with the beans. Add bbq sauce and brown sugar and rub Throw that concoction on the smoker until its bubbling good around the edges. Easy baked beans that are a huge hit every time.

Bush's beans, brown sugar, molasses, dried onion, and bbq sauce. Mix it up and bake at 350 for about an hour.]
Sweet and tasty without "green" or "weird" stuff in the beans!!

Thank each one of you for the suggestions – they all sound real good! I might be over worrying the picky eaters. It is killing me not putting onions and bell pepper in the mix. I plan on testing some of these Saturday and see where it takes me.
