UDS Lid

I'm building my new drum with the ball valve this time, might even buy a digital thermometer on this one. I don't have a kettle lid that fits do I'm just using the drum lid for now.

I've seen all type of different patterns for lids, what the best way for an exhaust hole? My step bits only go to 1 3/8" I can have someone cut the hole bigger at work for me if needed.. Or should I go with multiple holes up top?

If the lid has bung hole(s), get a threaded pipe and use that as your exhaust or drill eight 1 inch diameter holes in a circle pattern in the lid. If you use a pipe for your exhaust than make sure what ever you are cooking is not directly under the exhaust otherwise you will have black nasty stuff drip on your food.
Mine has bung holes so I used PVC pipe for my exhaust and works good but recently changed to chromed exhaust pipe tip.

There's a pattern that gets posted on here for 8 holes in the lid. Hopefully someone will link it, I need to use it myself.

So if you have 8 1" holes or 1 2" hole, I would assume some of the food will be under the 8 1" holes, does this not create any problems?
I do not have a lid with those threads I have a bare lid...
