Default Operation BBQ Relief Announcement

Since both of these guys are Brethren, thought I'd give them some props here and let you see the press release we put out today:

Operation BBQ Relief Names President and Vice President

Pleasant Hill, Missouri - Operation BBQ Relief, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit disaster relief organization, today announced that it has selected Shane Petzold to be the organization’s first president. Additionally, it has chosen Marc Matthews as vice-president.

Petzold, from Belton, Missouri, assumes the role after having been active with Operation BBQ Relief in a volunteer capacity since the organization was founded during relief efforts in the wake of the 2011 Joplin tornado. He is the pitmaster of Moo Cow BBQ team and is an accomplished welder, specializing in drum smokers and various other crafts. Matthews, a resident of Paola, Kansas, has also been a volunteer with the organization since the operation in Joplin and recently led the relief efforts in Harveyville, Kansas. He is the pitmaster of Funny Farm BBQ and owns a line of sauces and bastes by the same name.

“Both Shane and Marc have shown their passion for Operation BBQ Relief and for helping those in need”, said Co-Founder and Executive Director Will Cleaver. “We are lucky to have people with such commitment and we’re excited to have both of them take on these important roles.”

Both Petzold and Matthews will assume their roles immediately. They join Jon Orr, Overland Park, Kansas, who has been the organization’s secretary since it was founded. Additionally, other board positions will be appointed when candidates are identified. Co-Founders Stan Hays, Jeff Stith and Cleaver will all remain as Executive Directors. Hays is directing the finance and fund-raising efforts while Stith is responsible for marketing and public relations and Cleaver handles operations.

About Operation BBQ Relief, Inc.

Operation BBQ Relief, Inc. was founded in May, 2011 by Stan Hays, Jeff Stith and Will Cleaver after they planned and implemented a large relief effort in Joplin, Missouri. Competition barbecue teams totaling over 200 volunteers from eight states responded to Joplin in the wake of the massive EF5 tornado that destroyed a large part of that community, killing more than 140 people. The group served over 120,000 meals in eleven days to displaced families and emergency response personnel. The organization has since also responded to seven other natural disasters in Kansas, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Texas. They are preparing to repeat these operations anywhere in the United States where natural disasters threaten the lives and safety of our citizens. There is never a charge for a meal from Operation BBQ Relief, Inc.
