Ok, we're in full planning mode now. This year, the PGBBQ is slated for the weekend BEFORE Mother's Day, not the weekend AFTER. That's May 5-6!

Here's how it works, for those of you that don't know already:

Guys show up on Saturday to start cooking for Sunday. The church will be supplying meat to be cooked. During the day Saturday, we'll be cooking just about anything we want to have around, and having a dinner on Saturday night for ourselves. In fact, I'll be cooking something for that as the main course.

Sunday, volunteers from the church will come out to make sandwiches, set up, etc., to serve to the congregation and neighborhood. The area where the food is served is a rough area in a rough city, and this event makes an impact. This will be the 4th of these events, with last year being done by local cooks and a local restaurant.

it's a great time, with a great service being done for the church. If you're interested, let me know, and more info will be coming.

I wanted to get the date out as soon as I could. Anyone is welcome, local or not. 2 years ago, we had people come from 9 different states. 10 would make it even more fun!

i'd be interested but i am almost sure i will have finals for school during that time so i will most likely still be in new york. nevertheless i am still interested in case of the slight chance that i will be done with finals and home by then. thanks for the invite!

man.. I'm a dork. I've been up too late and keep messing up dates! Mods, can you change the date to 2012?

You realize that by that time, I'll still be writing 2011 on checks, right? :)

The date moved to the first weekend of May instead of the 3rd due to availability of pastors to be involved, too.

As before, the men's group will be providing pit and overnight help. However, we will most likely be cooking in Beavercreek, NOT Dayton, though I'm going to work on that. Beavercreek is the safer area, but I don't think we'd have any issues with the group of guns, I mean guys, that will be there. :) Plus, the cops kept us company all night.

Curt, you da best. Thank you for taking up the cause and leading the Brethren way!
Have every intention being there!

Curt, I hope to be there this year(2012) as it didn't work out last year (2011). Please keep me posted on the details.

Good to hear positive responses so far!

Guys, if you haven't done this before, it's not only a great outreach, but a lot... I mean a lot... of fun.

I'm already planning a couple of things to make this even better for the cooks.

You don't have to go to church to come to this event. However, there are some "rules"... We do a lot of recovery work, and this will be on church property, so no alcohol. We also try to watch our language. :) Other than that, it's a day of eating good food, being with old friends, meeting new ones, and sharing your talent in barbecue.

If you're free that weekend and can get to Dayton, Ohio, we'd love to have you. It's not a bash, as those have a bit, um, different outcome, but it is a great weekend. You can bring a cooker of just yourself.

On the road again this time with a Lic. Mobil Food Unit......We have never had trouble with the location in dayton would rather have it there. Bob we may have a short supply of Langs...........Bubba, Bull, Bandit, Dive, Harbormaster..............Looking forward to seeing everyone....on the calender...wont have a job so I will be there.

Ahhhh!!!!! Curt, if you continue holding the PGBBQ, I vow to make it one of these years. The wife and mother share May 6th as their birthdays. Ain't no way I'm getting that weekend off.

However, I know the event will succeed and I'm very happy to see it back on the books for 2012. If there's any support I can offer from afar, drop me a line.

Next year, it will likely move back to after Mother's Day. A new pastor has commitments that weekend, and he's in charge of the event, so it's only right we make sure he can make it!

Curt, I should be in.
As usual, working near Dayton, I can help with any prep / ready work you might need.
Also, I prefer the downtown campus. THAT is where His hands and feet work best. Just my opinion.

Hopefully since Scott is retired he put some of those stories in a book..........training sessions with scott.

Deer chili will be during afternoon.
