Default Brisket Prices- I miss 89 cent brisket

So I'll pay $1.89 and smile USDA Choice Angus.
My first mentor always preached Choice is the sweet spot. Found German Sausage out of Groom TX. Forecast tomorrow is 70mph winds with baseball sized hail in the 79159.

PS I've never seen nor remember sub $1.00 brisket. Just heard stories

1.89 is amazing. Here in Indianapolis, the best price I found is at Costco. 3.39 Lb. for USDA Prime packers.

Keep an eye peeled on the hand painted signs on the windows at the general store, next to the sheriffs office, on the Andy Griffith show.

I've seen some real good deals on there for lots of things quite often! Aunt Bee even bought a freezer one week when she made a killing on some beef! But, then I think the freezer threw a breaker and Andy got upset. So, don't buy too much.

I DO remember brisket less than $1/lb...
then everyone found out how to cook it and all of a sudden it's special and priced the same...
Add to that the fact that every fast food chain has to serve a brisket sandwich and, damn, the price for folks like us is through the roof...

.69-.79 used to be able to count on it happening for Memorial day and July 4. That was the only time I would buy them. Pick up 2, cook 1 and put 1 in the freezer. Haven't seen that in years.

It was glorious. I remember going to Sam's in Waco to buy a cooler for briskets I stumbled on at an HEB on my way from San Antonio to DFW. .49/lb for Select on July 5th.

I grew up in a grilling family. I can’t remember ever a brisket in our house growing up. We had one of those thick aluminum grills that resembles today’s PK Grills from either Sears or Wards I believe. Occasionally Dad would twice smoke a ham or stack Cornish game hens offset best he could. Most everything he cooked was well done plus+++

Brisket used to be trash. Most stores just ground it up for burger. Then someone turned these young'uns onto it and *poof* damn near steak prices!

$2.95 a Pound Case price, here at our Sam's Club.

https://www.samsclub.com/sams/case-s...lp_product_1_2

$3.28 a Pound Individual Price

https://www.samsclub.com/sams/usda-p...lp_product_1_5

Both appear to be Cryovaced.
I'm not supposed to eat Beef anymore.

My lament is remembering when Boston Butt was down to $1.06 # around Feb-March 2019.
And now $1.63 #
I hack down a butt and package it up for my Meat Stick and Sausage making. Then freeze the packages. Usually 5 pound packages.
Same with packages of Baby Back Ribs, break them down into individual racks (1/2 rack), and vacuum package for freezing.

I need another freezer. (And to win the lottery to fill it.)

Last brisket sale I caught was $1.99/lb for Choice at Kroger. Bought 3 or 4 of 'em.
Have one cooked, sliced and vac bagged in the freezer and a 14 pounder ground for burger in there as well.

I do remember $.19/lb chicken wings....

When I got to Texas in 2011, I can remember a couple of times getting sub $1 select brisket. I now look out for the sub $2 choice. I remember getting sub $1 gas in 1992 (the year I got married) in PA where gas prices are pretty high. I think I liked that better than the brisket price.
