bretheren, I lit my cheap little chimney I have and while sitting waiting for coals to get hot while it was on my gas burner (the only thing I use that thing for anymore is to light my charcoal) while looking at it I wondered if I got my power drill and put enough holes into it to get air going like crazy but still be able to hold its structure would that work to decrease coal ready up time?

I believe it has less holes so that the energy is pushed upward to light the coals above, more holes would not be better IMO...

If it's a cheap little chimney, I would say there is only one way to find out.

yup. don't throw out the chimney though. it still comes in handy sometimes. the torch is good for warming up a large cooker as well.

Just a word of caution... once you hit the toggle lever on that torch...
make sure you have a six foot radius of clearance when pressed... over 4 feet of high pressure flames.!!!

wear goggles esp. if you're starting lump. AND - having a charged fire extinguisher handy is always a great idea. not having one is always a bad idea.

+1. Or use a blow dryer to "fan" the coals. It's called a redneck guru!
