When you get a chance, watch the video. It makes it pretty clear. It is just a box welded on top of the firebox with a removable divider plate between them and vents on the oven to control temp and a few shelves.

I would love to get the 1/2" firebox and Oven upgrades, but I am already spending more than I thought I would when I started looking for a pit. Being that I'm in Central Texas (mild winter temps) and have a good source for free Post Oak, I'm not sure how much benefit the 1/2" firebox would be, other than maybe lasting 200 years instead of 100 years with the 1/4". The griddle idea is intriguing.

This thing is huge. I will probably go insulated firebox. I got a good feel for temp. loss due to weather when a PM thunderstorm dropped my Brisket cook by 100 degrees. My friend mounted it on a 5x8 trailer and in the end said he should have just let Chris fabricate the whole thing.

Yeah, it would get a little warm for sure. Maybe a hinged lid on top of the warmer instead of a solid top would help? Just swing that puppy open and then the heat will just rise right up through the top and then you can keep your eyebrows!
