First cheesteak was made in 1930. Cheese whiz came out in 1952.

The cheese steak was invented in south philly which is probably more Italian than Italy! I doubt they worried about being kosher.

Cheez whiz grosses me out. I use very thin sliced provolone. The sharper, the better.

Costco also carries and they are definitely better than Steakums! Great in a pinch.

Agree. I'm 20 miles from Philly, have lived here for over 30 years, and I travel there on a regular basis. The Whiz is what Pat's and Geno's serve, and has become the model for a Philly Cheese Steak.

Anywhere else close, it's been American cheese on the steak. That is what I prefer.

The cheesesteak was created years before whiz was invented. The original cheese was provolone.

+1 on Dalessandro’s! They make a really good cheesteak! If you are driving through the the Manayunk section of town it’s definitely worth stopping in.

My wife wanted a cheesesteak for lunch today so this is my second one in three days. Of course I was reading this thread while eating it!
