I would be in for a Saturday. Northern IL is about 2 1/2 hours for me. How about Waukegan? I can get a room.

We usually go to a BBQ place, and I don't know of any in Waukegan. Real Urban BBQ is in Highland Park or Vernon Hills. Both are north of the city.

I know the owner. If that works out to be a good place I can contact him.

Ron- Im in on any day with a little notice although Id prefer the burbs vs driving into city and dealing with parking :)
If you do plan on Real Urban Id suggest the Vernon Hills location. There is an actual lot vs Highland Park which is all street parking in a pretty busy area. Food at both locations is good though. Just preferences..not showstoppers

Thanks, Bill... I prefer 'burbs for the same reason, but someplace reasonably close to the train stations downtown would be OK.

Thanks for the not on Real Urban. Let's put Real Urban BBQ in Vernon Hills on the short list for now.

Any thoughts on Rub Country Smokehouse? Jared has a Bewely pit now and is making some amazing bbq!

I prefer Saturdays, but can squeeze in a Sunday gathering. I had fun last time, and look forward to it again!

So far the suggested places are...

Real Urban BBQ, Vernon Hills, IL (North suburbs)
Rub's Backcountry Smokehouse, Rogers Park, IL (North side of the city)

I'd love to host. I have the perfect space for it too! I have 2 storefronts - 1 is the restaurant, and the adjacent space is our "Pit Room" where I teach BBQ Cooking classes - and where our Bewley smoker is. I can accommodate 20-25 people....let me know, I'd love to host the party!

Thanks Jared... We'll see what the consensus is. Also, is 25 the max? Last year we were close to 40.

I'm in Capt. Let me know when and where. I know it got a little tight at Sweet Baby Rays when we had 40'ish people, so room to spare is good.

25 is definitely not max - we have our dining room too that holds 40.

I vote Rub Country Smokehouse. Jared has a great space and the Bewely pit is producing some tasty bbq.

Hands down...the best spot north of Chicago is BIG ED'S BBQ in Waukegan!! If you haven't been go...and if you've been, you know! The bark on his shoulder, the tenderness of his brisket, the flavor profile of his ribs...I'm telling you, this is the place! All in favor, say I!!!????!!

Sounds a bit like an advertisement :-D

Let's add Big Ed's to the list.
