Thanks :) I should be able to pick those up at the local hardware big box store. At least I know what I need now, thanks to all of you here :) I'll probably order a DigiQ with the fan and adapter later this week or next.

I love my Guru, my WSM is like an oven the temps are rock solid. In the pic below the holes are sealed with the thermal tape supplied with the Guru, worked fine until the damper worked loose cutting airflow. I'm now rockin' the electrical knockouts. My only regret with the Guru is not getting the Cyber Q which can run two pits.

I have yet to hear a complaint about the DigiQ. I think I'm definitely gonna order one and give it a whirl. Too bad I won't have it for my first cook this weekend :)

As many have already said it is a nice to have not a need to have. I have had one for a couple of years and have really enjoyed cooking with it.
I did have to make a few adjustments as I was figuring out how to cook with it. Keep in mind that the Guru does it's job best when it is in complete control of the air flow. For me the key to success is to have all air sealed off except the fan at the bottom and the top vent. I will take a few pieces of foil and fold them up to make a gasket of sorts for the seam between the two bottom pieces of the WSM (eliminates potential air leaks). This ensures that the guru can do it's thing regardless of the weather conditions.

Just purely out of curiosity, would a DigiQ DX system be allowed in a competition? Or any temp control system for that matter?

My DigiQ DX arrived today. I was disappointed to find out that the sensor grommets I purchased aren't going to be helpful with the DigiQ probes. The pit probe has the alligator clip which won't fit through the grommet and the temp probe would have to be straightened out a bit to make it fit through. Not a real big deal, but it does put me back to square one with a solid method to run the probes into the WSM. I'm not against the idea of drilling a hole in the smoker door panel... One of the photos posted in this thread appears to have the probes running into one of the holes where a sensor grommet would fit, but there is actually no grommet installed. It looks like the original nut and bolt are just removed. Would this be the best way to route these probes?

That's odd. My probes, both meat and pit, fit fine through the gromets.

I love my DigiQ with the WSM 22.5. I've cooked with and without it and have had great results both ways. However, without it, I am not comfortable putting on a big cook and going to bed so I can be ready to enjoy the festivities with everyone else the next day.

Both mine fit fine. You must remove the alligator clip, push the probe through and then put the alligator clip back on. The 45 degree bent meat probe will also fit.

My meat probe is bent 90 degrees, so would it be ok to bend it out a little to fit it through? I figured out the alligator clip... I thought it was crimped on really tight but it will just pull off.. I'm ok there :)

I don't think you want to bend it without talking to someone who knows those things. My probe is bent about 45 degrees and fits through the grommet ok.

I went to the hardware store to pick up some of these today. They had half and 3/4" variations, so I grabbed a few of the half inch caps... they are a little too large to fit in the lower air vent holes on the WSM 18.5". What size did you buy and do you know if they are available in a size smaller than half inch?

The ones you bought are probably electrical knock out plugs where 1/2" is the trade size but the size of the hole it plugs is 7/8". You need 3/4" hole plugs and not knock out plugs (confusing I know) these are the ones I used part # 9563K45 found on this page http://www.mcmaster.com/#snap-in-plugs/=cc00hm

Thanks :) I'll get some of those on the way soon... In the mean time I just used the tape that came with the BBQ Guru...

Is that for the 22" or the 18.5"?

Thanks!

IIRC they are both the same, I'll double check tomorrow.
