Why Do Y'all Wrap in Foil?

I'm just wondering if there's another reason than keeping it from drying out. My reason for asking is that I usually don't wrap and the outside of the meat gets a little dry. Would wrapping help with this. BTW I just wrapped the roast that I'm smoking today.
