Like costco with the hot dog plant and the chicken farms, I think walmart, no matter what you think of them made a good decision.,

Lightbulb Walmart meat?

Do any of ya'll buy meat at Wally World?

I've been in a couple of Walmart's super stores that have groceries...and their meat quality, from what I've seen (and tried twice)....leaves a good bit to be desired.

I get most of mine from Costco. So far, so good on that.

Will it be like the store where everything is self-checkout, and you can go in and cut your own meat the way you want it?

I don't know. I've never seen a butcher in a walmart before so I guess they are already doing "case ready" at smaller distribution/processing points around the country. Is making a larger "case ready" facility going to make it fresher? Like I said....I don't know.

Now that I googled, I guess they haven't had butchers for quite a while.....

Yep, it's been pretty good so far. Better than The Jewels (Albertson's) and some of the small local chains. Can get stuff there I've never seen at any of the other stores. Don't have a Costco nearby and the Sam's that was next to Wally World closed down a few years back.

My Walmart yellow tag is 10 or 15% on fresh meat. Used to be good....not in the last 3 years or so. Ain't worth lookin' any more.

I long for the days when a Save-A-Lot 5 minutes away marked down 50% a couple years ago. They only do 20% now.

What did Archie and Edith used to sing? "Those were the days!"

I bought 4 pork butts through Walmart a few weeks backs since Sam's Club nextdoor were smooth out. I can't think of anything negative to say about them.

Meat at the local wally world isn't so bad. Better than some, worse than others. But their produce is a whole different story....

“We’ll continue to work hand in hand with our suppliers to ensure we’re delivering high-quality products,

Imagine. Walmart and high quality used in the same sentence.

The key to buying beef at Walmart is to get the stuff in the black trays. The white tray stuff sucks.

No anytime I've tried them left a lot to be desired. Most of my stuff comes from Sams which I thought would be the same but it's different.

In 2018, the top four beef producers control 85% of the US market. Forty years ago, the top four beef producers controlled about one-third of the market. When Teddy Roosevelt broke up the "beef trust" companies for colluding with each other, the top six producers controlled about half of the beef sold in the US market.

In 2018, Tyson, Koch Foods and Perdue Farms controlled 90% of the chicken sold in the US.

As of 2021, Smithfield, JBS, Tyson, and Hormel controlled over 70% of the pork market.

Did you know that Smithfield is owned by the Chinese multinational WH group? JBS is owned by a Brazilian company. I am sure there are other corporations that are based outside of the US that control our meat producers. Time for another trust bust!

What I think would be poetic justice for Wal-Mart is once the processing plant is open and running, the workers there unionize. I wonder if they would close the plant down to put their workers out of a job for unionizing. That is what the did to the meat cutters down in Texas when they formed a union. It is also why Wal-Mart sells only case ready meats.
