Show me your thermometer rigs!
So, I'm looking on pulling the trigger on a solid professional digital thermometer. Looking at ThermoWorks Pro Kit. Looks like it leaves some open possibilities. Let me know what you use and why....Reason is, it seems as everything I've purchased only lasts a few cooks, or isn't accurate at all..

Sorry, we haven't even kissed and you want to see my Thermo, (JK) I don't use any of them. Insta read probe and a sense of touch. Thats all. Tooth pick test, bend test, etc.

I had used a Maverick for many years without any problems. I liked the wireless so I could keep an eye on it and make any needed adjustments.
I did look at the Thermoworks Pro Kit, but could not justify the cost vs the benefit, (not wireless, no pit control, just a thermometer.) Then I bought the BBQ Guru, it displays the pit and food temperatures like the Maverick. While it is not wireless, I never have to check the pit. It has perfect temperature control and even lowers the pit temperature when the meat is nearing the set internal temperature, this prevents over cooking if your arrival is delayed. While they do make a wireless version to communicate to a smartphone and/or computer, I felt it isn't really needed as the basic unit babysits the pit and manages everything for you. I do use a thermopen for accuracy checks and grilling. I also use it to verify safe internal temps before releasing the food to be served to the public. BBQ Guro Link |

if you professional get a Fluke or something similar. I use this one in my engineering job, it has 2 probe capability.
I also have a Maverick ET 732 but its a toy compared to this

I use my BBQ Guru CyberQ Wifi like a remote thermometer about as much as I use it for pit temp control. But, I use it just to monitor progress, not to determine when the meat is done.

I got my setup from Cole Palmer. I think the unit was $60 and the hypodermic probe was $30. The unit comes with a probe but it's big like most other meat probes out there. |
