Default Bacon Expiration

I've got 2 pounds of bacon... it says "use by October 16 09" I shouldn't eat this, right? Unopened, has been in the fridge. Still Cryvac sealed.

I really wanted to make pig candy.

Looks like a trip to the store for you. I wouldn't eat it.

Back in the day, dad would open it up and do the smell test. If it smelled OK we would eat it... I don't recall any of us ever getting sick from eating meat out of date using the smell test.

Dad used to run a meat route and it was rare that we ever ate meat in date.

Use your own judgement...

Papa

Edit: I personally wouldn't take a chance with a date that far out...

I am deeply troubled by the subject matter of this thread. I can't get it out of my head. To think that bacon sat in your refrigerator for four months just makes me want to cry. There just can't be a good, viable reason.

Dude, you need to spend some time in the penalty box.

Yes, what BBQ Grail said. I find it hard to believe there wasn't some time in the past 4 months that you needed bacon and didn't do a search.
