Gravity feed cabinet or offset stick burner?
Ok, so I need to upgrade the capacity of my smoking. I cook on a backyard offset and need more than 8 butts per cook. The only comparison I have in vertical smoking is with a kamado and while that is easier to manage than a stick burner, I find there is less smoke flavor.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also if you have any leads on someone looking to sell! |

You won't beat the capacity of a stick burner unless you get a very large gravity fed unit. That being said, the gravity fed units are set and forget where the stick burners require attention.

How many times a week/month/year do you want to bbq but don't have the time to baby sit the cooker?
With a gravity fed smoker you can cook unattended thru the night, while you do yard work, while you run to pick up the kids from town... I have a stick burner and a gravity fed...guess which one gets used more... There are some nice smokers for sale in that section..stumps, assasin,backwoods... jon |

I'm not looking for a smaller cabinet, one that would at least take 16 butts per smoke. I think it's worth the try to move to a gravity fed unit. Assasin, Backwoods, Stumps, Pitmaker...

Hard to beat the Pitmaker Vault for capacity, quality of build at a reasonable price.

Stickburner all day! Get a quality one and you really won't need to baby it as much people think.

I have to admit that I don't use a Guru either. That would help with regulating temperature on windy days and probably be more predictable. Anyone used a Pitmaker offset?

I have one. I have the Sniper on our trailer. I have the insulated firebox which helps with fuel. It is also a very nice pit. I cook briskets and pork butts on it. It is the 3rd offset I have cooked on and by far the best. Lots of room on it.

What is the main/major difference in the finished product of meat between a stickburner and cabinet smoker? Is it that much of a difference?
