The Addiction Continues. 22.5" WSM
Got in the mail yesterday and built her. Also added the BBQ Guru Eye Lets to run my cables through. I really underestimated the size of this, it's a MONSTER of a smoker . Can't wait for my last bday present which is 2 gift certificates to Big Poppa Smokers web site so I can gear up for some smokin' fun.
I have one question, the door seems to stay open on the two top right corners a little too much. I went on virtual bullet and it said to bend them. I did that and it seems to stay open still, anyone have any suggestions? |

I ended up getting some fire rope from a local hardware store and lined the edges of the door. No problems since.

You could get an 18 gauge stainless steel replacement door from Cajun Bandit http://cajunbandit.com/wsm-parts-mods/.

I took mine and formed it over my thigh. After a couple of cooks it seals up fine.

Take your time and just keep working with the door. You can get it very close. They are very easy to shape and bend. After a few smokes it will seal itself right up.

Agreed.
I added the 22.5 just before Christmas and used it for the first time on Monday. (Regardless of how big it looks, four 8 lb chickens will not fit on one grate. ) The door on mine seems to have a big gap as well. I fiddled with trying for a better bend but need to work more on it. I did put a bead of high temperature silicone on the top and bottom joint so it does seal well enough to put out the remaining coals when the vents are closed. You still need a mini to complete your collection (unless you already have one. Perfect size to handle that fourth chicken. )

My wife cuts me a lot of slack in that regard. First, she enjoys what I cook and second, it's a lot less expensive than collecting motorcycles or Wheel Horse garden tractors, my other interests. I'm well past 7. In fact, I've added the 22.5 WSM to the collection and SWMBO has not noticed it sitting next to the porch with the others.

I've got the 18.5 and love it. Planning to add the 22.5 some time in the future.

If it is that bad, call Weber Customer Service. They are great and will probably ship you a new door.

I have an 18 too and Love It! I modded with the CB SS door, CB grommets and Stanley garage door handles. Really makes it cook better and more conveniently. They really are a smokin' machine!
