Default Cleaning BGE Daisy Wheel

Does anybody have any suggestions on the best to get creosote off of the cast iron BGE daisy wheel? I'm thinking maybe Simple Green and an old toothbrush. Got a better way that won't take the seasoning out of the metal? I have to do something, that stuff is so sticky it's tough to move the vents now. Thanks for any ideas.

I just bang mine a little, then spin the fine adjustment a few times. Unless it's interfering with the function, or falling onto your food, I wouldn't worry about it.

When I got the large I have now the daisy wheel was really caked. I cranked up a good hot fire and put it down on the cooking grate for maybe 5 minutes. After it cooled I used a wire brush to knock off the flakes.

yep, cook it. just throw it in when you shut down, then use the ceramic rain top to snuf the fire. after it cools, scrape off anything loose and hit it with some pam and wipe off the excess
