Default Pellet storage

This is for the "Tree Turd" or "Micro Log" burners with FECs, Traegers, etc.

I will never burn enough pellets to justify a pallet order to cut the cost.
I like to try different things, pellet flavors is my project right now.
I do not like "wrassling" bags of pellets and do not trust them to stay intact for long.
I live in FL and we have lots of humidity--prime enemy of pellets.

So, I had my DAD save his cat litter drums.
You could use 5 gal paint cans gathered from a large paint project also.
I line the drums with a 13 gal trash bag, fill with about 20 lbs of pellets, and slap a label on.

Works like a champ. I used some Apple pellets that were bought 05/05 and they were as fresh as new

I buy from EPPS Farm (Branch Creek brand). www.bbqwoodpellets.com.
Their cost includes shipping, so no surprises. I always get my delivery in about 3 working days, 4 at max. Lots of variety.
I am not recommending them--Do not have enough time cooking with them in the FEC for that.
It is just a source that seems to work for a low volume consumer like me.

Anyway, just some thoughts.

YUP !! Those kitty litter containers are the "cats meow" . Some of mine are filled with cherry or pecan chunks and lump scraps for short cooks. Perfect for partial bags of Tree Turds!

You can go by a donut shop or bakery. They get icing and other items in 2-5 gallon buckets. Ask them to set aside some. Easy to clean.

Capn,
You can add dried feed corn (yellow field corn) or unpopped popcorn wrapped in cheese cloth to absorb any moisture present in the cartons. This also works for storing salt, as rice will eventually breakdown after time. Though if you use in a salt shaker people might look at you funny...

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'd seen those containers at cookinpellets.com, but I hadn't noticed that the shipping is much more reasonable when you buy more than one. I think I'll get two of those, then get my pellets from Bob at kck.com (BBQ Bonanza) after that, since I can just drive up there.

That's funny. My last post was a response to a newer thread, but I'd followed a link to this one. I need some sleep.
