Um, Doc, finally figured out your secret ingredient - STARS! Lots of them. On your Q! On the beer too! Think we should check with JD if stars are allowed or not.

Just kidding. Good lucking rib lunch.

We've seen a broad array of foods in the last 7 weeks of throwdowns. Things like the Rick's beef wellington, the single photo that Curt took of no less than 6 different things done on his Egg one day, May Day's mango, and something I had never even heard of - the monkey bread that River City Smokehouse made was not only a great photograph, but using a bundt pan in a barbecue just blew my mind. That said, I had a hard time coming up with an idea for this weeks competition........At first I thought about doing something extreme, new wave, even radical, but came up empty. I drew a complete blank for several days, then one afternoon while sitting at the kitchen table cleaning a rifle it came to me. Bear with me a minute because this is no ordinary rifle. It was the first gun I owned, a Winchester model 74. This particular one was made in 1946 and I got it used when I was 10 and have had it for 43 years. This is a mans gun and it took many years to grow into it, I still bring it out and shoot it a few times a year. It brings back good memories. That's when it came to me, the throwdown theme that is. I decided I had to go "old school" and share through pictures some memories of barbecue. I love ribs, and also making and eating sausage so those were the headliners. I generally don't cook with sauce, so you'll see it on the side. Beans have always been my number one side dish, I made my standard pintos. I'll never break my oldest habits, crackers and pickles on the side. These are my homemade kosher dills. My oldest recollections are BBQ joints that serve it all up on butcher paper at an outside table, so welcome to my backyard Q joint.

I was pretty sure I had it covered with the "pit shot" and the "money shot", but before I dove into my barbecue, I had to take a third picture.

Great story and pics Wayne...thanks for sharing. When I read you story it took me back to when I was a kid growing up in Tennessee...and my first hunt with my grandfather. We went deer hunting...I was thirteen and could barley handle his Savage over/ under. It was a 410 / 22 cal. We could only hunt with shot guns loaded with slugs...or "punkin' balls" as he called them. We didn't even see a deer that day nor did I bag one that season. I did get a few rabbits and squirrels along the railroad tracks and in the hickory grove. Great memories!

It's a rare beverage known to those of us who are under 21, or got tired of waking up in jail. You wanna guess which catagory I fall in?

Did some prime rib today, and then served it with roasted red potatoes, and grilled asparagus with orange mayonaise.
