How do you guys get the probe wire through the drum and keep it from melting at the entry point?

That's what I did but she is still pretty warm at the moment. I'll let her settle and check it out.

Son of UDS
Well, the second UDS. I wanted to ask you Brothers who have made one and have an extended intake, is the height an issue with air intake?
Did not think the thing would go that high above the pit when I bought it!

Doc, here's what I did to keep the cables from crimping. Also, I no longer buy the rubber coated lines and only go with the metal braided. The rubber will not hold up if crimped in any way. Hope this helps.

Bentley I definetly think it does, I switched 2 of my intakes to higher and it does not draw air in as well as the bottom intakes..., now I can leave one bottom on open and play with the daisy wheel and dial in temps, and with the ball valve on the high intakes I can control temps more acurate... one bottom intake works better than two high intakes open...

RE: Bentley son of UDS
I'd love to try a 24" high 3" diameter exhaust stack on that UDS. The longer stack creates more draw but at the end of the day you will probably end up dropping that valve to a more common height. Usually the reason we have the high mounted valves is to keep from bending over to make adjustments-I'm sure we could adjust that valve with our foot!!! |

Thats the reason I liked it, should have waited to weld it to the side to see if it works!

What is the advantage of a vertical intake pipe (outside of not having to bend over to adjust your ball valve)?

Besides the Coolness Factor, I find my Vertical 1" Intake Pipe allows me easy access to fine tune the Temps for Low and Slow. I'm 6'6" and having the Intake at my fingertips is a big advantage, IMHO.
I've read where others have had problems with Temp Control, having gone Vertical with their Intakes, but I've had no such issues. Consistant Temps, Consistant Results. Perhaps the Ram on top makes a difference! |
