Using a coffee or similar type will lose too much good stuff. We always grind the rubs and spices we use to inject and use a couple different size strainers to catch clogging sized pieces. The cheap sink strainers work wonders. I use very small (1/8" or smaller ) needles, so it's something we deal with every cook. Steve.
