Default Hinged flat top?

Has anyone hinged a flat top drum lid? I've seen several hinges for Weber type lids. I've built a basic UDS and was thinking of attaching a large strap hinge and just using pieces of flat metal as really thick washers to build up underneath the hinge so that I don't have to mess with the geometry/contours of the drum lid and sides. My top looks like this and was made using DWV grade copper.

Thanks!

I used blue masking tape, no issues.

I love the velocity stack dual exhaust! I did something similar on a mini-UDS with a stainless mixing bowl lid.

I used alum. rod caps for handles on the sides. Intake stack is off a 750 Honda!

Default table

I used a Weber charcoal grill side table.Only had to weld (or bolt) a tab to the drum for the brace,it can be removed with one wing nut....
