Default Competition eating at KCBS events

Have there ever been any eating competitions at KCBS events? Would this be interesting? New to the site let me know what you think.

At the events I've been to, most of the cooks give samples to various members of the crowds. Most contests also have vendors who have paid to sell there food to the crowds.

Or are you talking about a "how many chicken wings can a person eat in a hour?" type of contest? Or a pie eating contest etc?

At the Oregon State Championships they had a huge deal about a rib eating contest. I think someone said that it was a qualifier for some national eating contest, The Portland paper even did an article on an old couple thats all they do is go around and compete in these eating contest..

I know one thing watching them power those overcooked ribs down made me real sick to my stomach after cooking for competition the whole weekend.

Take care

This is my own opinion, take it for what it is worth but watching a bunch of guys gourd themselves with ribs after I worked so hard trying to make the best ribs I could for a contest, has absolutely no appeal to me whatsoever.

I agree. If i knew they were gonna stuff my ribs down like that I would drop half a bottle of Daves insanity sauce on them.

Before we get too far off here- I think the question was asking about the "how much can you eat in a given amount of time?" deals being held in conjunction with a sanctioned contest.
If I am right about the question:
That would be entirely up to the organizer or promoter.
It would be a side event as part of the overall theme they desired.

I have never seen it, but....???

"Apples and Oranges" question with regard to sanctioned events.
No relationship.

Be that as it may, it would still disturb me even if it was not my ribs being woofed down. BBQ is meant to be enjoyed, not gobbled down like a slob.

I don't know about that. Sometimes I enjoy gobbling it down like a slob.

Someday, that gobbling (especially brisket) is gonna cause me to slice off a few fingers. Too busy woofing as I slice.

As for the eating contests, the food being consumed wouldn't necessarily need to be Q (I agree whole heartedly this would be a waste). Pie, as mentioned above, or hotdogs or watermelon.
Contests that have other associated activities make for some of most interesting events. I'm not sure an eating contest makes for a perfect pairing with a Q contest, but as part of a full schedule of events for a festival weekend, for example, would be OK with me.

I agree, two unrelated topics. I was signed up to judge Key Largo. I couldn't make it, but I was on their email list for notification. The KCBS event was but one event during a 4 or 5 day Island jubilee. As a judge (or competitor I think) you had access and invites to all this stuff (concerts, breakfasts, buffets, carnivals, etc)

Now during this type of event, I could easily see where they had a "Most Conch Fritters" in 20 minutes thing, but mutually exclusive from the KCBS event in and of itself.

Dats what I was thinking. A crowd gatherer... pickled eggs, anchovie flats, or you could keep a Q theme with buffalo turds.

What Okie Dokie is talking about was a eating contest that was not part of the BBQ competition. The ribs were done by the chef at the Casino, looked like they had been boiled then baked. These folks were not eating competition BBQ.
