I think it’s been 3 years, hopefully it lives up to the hype.

I've seen some good reviews. the range is super limited so you'll need to connect it to a phone and leave it close to the cooker. I've also heard the ambient temp end can read low. I think it's due to the proximity of the meat to ambient probe.

have fun with the new toy

It has taken 3 years to get it? WOW! That makes Shirley Fab waitlists look short.

I’ll post a review once I get a chance to use it.

Meater help

I have had mine for about a month. Here"s what I've learned.
Block must be very close to the probe in use ..I keep mine on a cart next to my WSM less than a foot from probe or probes in use.

I use iPhone and on several occasions I have gone to grocery and found device working fine.

Batteries will work Meater probe for 50 hours. Discovered this when my Meater kept losing connection. Instructions state the 50 hour deal.

You cannot place probe in smoker without having the meat temp portion inserted in meat or potato etc. I bought a cheap Pack of weiners and use 1/2 one to probe while bringing my cooker to temp.

There will be a series of alarms when your cook nears completion.

Email me for phone number if you have other concerns, I love the system...

I like mine. Not love, and definitely not hate. Like. I have not used them in something big like a brisket or butt yet, just some steaks and chops.

Pros:

- Easy to set up.
- Works as advertised.
- No cables!
- Great for a rotisserie.

Cons:

- Short range from the probes to the block. I sit mine on the table of the WSCG. Will have to devise a raincoat for inclement weather. Not sure how well it will work with my LSG cabinet with thicker walls.
- While initial setup was easy, took my old brain a while to figure out how to change Wi-Fi connections. Should be able to do it from the app. I finally figured out to do it from the block.
- Probes are thick and long, and require a minimum insertion point. Anything smaller than a large chicken breast, and you really can’t use them. Even the chops I used them on, it wasn’t easy to get them inserted enough and not up against the bone.
- The app is alright, but since I reverse sear a lot, I don’t follow it to completion very often.
- Speaking of reverse sear, I’m concerned with throwing them over the coals, so I remove them from the meat first.
- Can’t forget the whole three year wait thing.

When all is said and done, if I knew then what I know now, I probably wouldn’t buy them. But, hey, it’s the first generation, and maybe they’ll continue to improve. And in 20 years, when they make the best probes and cause Skynet, I can say I was in on the ground floor.
