If you come through Greensboro i recommend Stamey's for Lexington style BBQ(also Known as western style). There is also the Lexington, NC location where Stamey's was originaly from and is surrounded by many BBQ resturaunts, it is also the home of the Lexington Barbecue Festival which is the largest Food festival in the US.

If you then go through or near the town of Goldsboro you will need to stop at Wilber's, just like Stamey's they still cook their pork the old fashioned way, slow cooked over hickory or Oak wood coals.
Unfortunately in NC there are many BBQ resturaunts that do not use wood to cook with and have moved to electric cookers. if you do not see the smoker or smoke house in the back or smell the smoke go somewhere else. In this state you will not have to look far.

Get off 40 on to 64 heading to Moxville and Lexington. Stop in Lexington at Lexington #1 (known locally as Honey Monk's). Take 85 back to 40.
