My father-in-law lost some trees in a storm.
Too bad for him, good for me.

They are apple, peach, and plum trees.

I know the apple and peach will be good, but have any of you ever smoked with plum?

Is the wood from the ornamental fruit trees good to smoke with? And what about stuff like wild cherry that doesn't fruit or bloom?

off topic--------
Is this considered hijacking here or it ok since it's on topic?

As far as I have been able to find on the internets, wood from ornamental fruit trees should be the same as fruit bearing versions.

I would also think that plum tree wood would be worth trying.

Burn some by itself and smell the smoke once it starts burning clean.
Smells good... use it.
Smells bad... don't.

waiting on a definate reply from the University of Florida Agricultural agent but was told that ornamental and flowering fruit trees are almost genetically the same it is just the fruiting trees were grafted with a wild bush to produce the fruit, the wild cherry can be used but it seems to have a more bitter aroma and flavor that is apparted to the food.
